The young Uzbekistan team has won the 2022 Chess Olympiad in Chennai, though it was 27-year-old Jakhongir Vakhidov who clinched victory against the Netherlands. Armenia missed out on tiebreaks after defeating Spain, while India 2 took bronze. The women’s event saw an emotional victory for Ukraine, who edged out Georgia, after India fell at the final hurdle to the USA, but still took bronze.

Gukesh has been the star of the Chennai Olympiad and was about to beat Nodirbek Abdusattorov, move to a staggering 9.5/10, and give India 2 the co-lead before the final round. Instead he crashed to defeat, and it’s Uzbekistan who lead with Armenia, who defeated Azerbaijan 3:1.

16-year-old Gukesh will take on 17-year-old Nodirbek Abdusattorov as the teen stars of India 2 and Uzbekistan clash in Monday's penultimate round of the Chess Olympiad in Chennai.

Javokhir Sindarov and Jakhongir Vakhidov grabbed the wins as Uzbekistan beat Armenia to take over as leaders of the Chennai Olympiad with two rounds to go. They face the teen stars of India 2 in Round 10 after Praggnanandhaa rescued a draw against Azerbaijan. In the Women’s event Poland’s Oliwia Kiolbasa hit 9/9, gave Poland victory over India, and left a 4-way tie for 1st place.
